5 Questions You Should Ask Yourself Before Starting A Blog

As you have seen lately, I am playing quite a bit on the blogging part. After so many years with the blog I have decided that now is the time to help other professionals to create a powerful blog and above all help them to monetize their content in a strategic way and not with SPAM techniques that end up scaring readers. Today I would like to share the 5 questions that all professionals should ask themselves before creating a blog. If you already have your blog and are thinking of giving it a twist, they will also help you.

5 questions you should ask yourself before starting a blog

Questions You Should Ask Yourself Before Starting A Blog

A blog is so easy to create that most professionals have started one at some point in their life. However, only some have continued with their blogs, taking them to another level. Behind a blog there are many hours and a lot of passion and only some can commit to their blogs to maintain them over time. They blame it on a lack of time, but let's face it when you have passion, determination, and a little organization in your life, time you get.

1. Why do you really want to start a blog?

What really motivated you to want to start a blog?

  • Your desire to share your knowledge
  • An idea about a small project
  • Your friends who always complain that you don't have a blog

By the way, if you plan to open a blog to cover yourself overnight, let me clarify that this will not happen. All those courses and formulas to earn money with a blog will always ask you for two things: financial investment and time. Focus first on creating a successful blog and then you will start to monetize it.

2. What are you going to talk about on your blog?

The main theme of your blog is very important, but it does not have to limit you either, there are many blogs that are specialists in Marketing and then talk about related things. My blog started as Social Media Marketing and here you read me talking about Blogging. My recommendation is that you make a table in excel or in a notebook to complete these three columns:

Main theme | Main topics | Sporadic themes

Then do not forget to be clear about the keywords of your blog to include them in ALL your content.

3. A new brand or your personal brand?

This, although it seems silly, is not. When you make a new blog you can hide under a new name or you can use your personal name. It all depends on what you want to do and what you feel most comfortable with. I use my personal brand as you will see in this blog and in my lifestyle division . However in my new project in English I use a new brand. If your blog will be more focused on a business or startup that you have, then I recommend hiding it under a brand, otherwise go with your personal brand or the word that you feel identifies you the most.

4. Who is your blog aimed at?

Although I assure you that many types of audiences will visit your blog, you have to be clear to whom you are going to speak. Here are some questions that can help you:

  • Brief description of audience type A:
  • 5 types of content for audience A:
  • Blogs that are read by public A:

If you do this with the types of public you want to work with on your new blog, I assure you that you will know how to better focus your content.

5. How many times are you going to post?

This is the part where you have to commit to yourself. There are different types of frequencies, my recommendation is that you have a minimum:

  • 5 times a week - can be a lot if you have limited time
  • 3 times a week - is my recommendation for you, if it seems a lot you can always decrease
  • 2 times a week - I also recommend it for your beginnings
  • Once a week - most common on many new blogs

I have had times with publications 5 times a week and others like last year where hopefully I published 1 or 2 times a week. The important thing is that I NEVER stopped posting. It is clear that if you want good results you will have to dedicate more time to your project. I dedicated many hours a week for 4 years to my blog and finally a month and a half ago I quit my job to dedicate much more time to my blog, my consulting and mentoring and my international travels. Today I can tell you with certainty that I stopped going out many weekends to be with my blog and that I do not regret a minute of this decision. I hope these questions help you better focus on your new challenge as a blogger. If you have questions write me in comments.
